Finally, Publix is open in the ‘burg

Publix has opened their new store at 4660 Monticello Avenue in the Monticello Marketplace in Williamsburg Va. This is the first Publix store in Hampton Roads. The store is just over 62,000 square feet. Publix opened at 7 a.m. with a crowd of more than 50 people.

“On behalf of the Board of Supervisors, I am so pleased to welcome Publix to our community. We are confident Publix made the right decision to open their first store in Hampton Roads right here in James City County. I appreciate Publix’s commitment to their associates and their desire to be involved as responsible citizens to our community,” stated Ruth Larson, Board of Supervisors Chair. Larson continued, “As a longtime visitor to Florida, I am very familiar with Publix’s commitment to top quality customer service offered by their associates. I am also very pleased to have a grocery store back in that location and am confident our citizens will welcome Publix to our community by shopping at this store.

The first Publix opened in 1930 in Florida and the company has grown to more than 1,000 stores across the Southeast. Publix is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the United States and one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the US.
