Getting to Know Your Neighbors: Bill and Karen Shelly-Viniterra New Kent

Meet Bill and Karen Shelly, the new kids on the block in Viniterra. We had a chance to ask them a few “get to know you” questions as they were moving in recently. They kindly shared a bit about themselves amid their unpacking and getting settled.

No stranger to moving, this is the 7th home for the Shelly family. With Karen’s background in new construction, the Shelly home was built with input from Karen who worked for HH Hunt Homes for 12 years. Her expertise and knowledge of the building process was key when selecting a builder who would welcome her participation and experience. “ The Villas dedicated Builder provided the best value for the price, and we liked their willingness for Karen to provide her knowledge and product design during the whole building process.”

Bill and Karen have two grown children, Morgan Shelly (26) and Grayson Shelly (23). The family lived in Richmond for 14 years while Bill worked as a Manager for Project Scheduling, Logistics and Business Support for Dominion Energy. Karen worked with HH Hunt Homes and was Design Manager for Virginia Market. Avid sports lovers, Bill and Karen both enjoy golf, and Bill played basketball and baseball at Hampden Sydney College (1982). Both are sports enthusiasts and hold season tickets for the Washington Redskins. Mr. and Mrs. Shelly also love to travel in their spare time.

Like many of the residents of Viniterra, the location of the development and its proximity to Richmond & Newport News, as well as the Airport, drew them here. One drive through the neighborhood with its catchy curb appeal and low maintenance villas, and the Shelly family was hooked. “The care of the community and residents appears to be exceptional and top notch as far as developments go.”

The golf course and winery felt perfectly suited to their hobbies and tastes, and the sales staff and developer made the process feel seamless. “We were looking to downsize and build a perfect home to meet our needs. We intended to retire in a planned community with amenities. When Villas were first advertised in 2015 we visited the sales office and toured the community. We were the first to secure a lot in the Villas Section almost immediately.”

Fast-forward two years to 2017, and the Shelly family is overjoyed to finally move into the Viniterra community. Keep an eye out for this fantastic family.
