Kudos to the Williamsburg Regional Library!

I had to laugh when I saw this letter published in the Pueblo Colorado newspaper. In the midst of the best library competition, Margaret Lane of  Williamsburg VA sent this welcoming letter to the Pueblo newspaper.
“As we all await the results of the library competition, please accept an invitation to come visit Williamsburg, Va., your friendly competitor. Williamsburg is a lovely, livable, sophisticated, fun, modern southern city. It’s home to the Williamsburg Regional Library, the College of William and Mary and the site of Colonial Williamsburg. The city of Williamsburg annually welcomes visitors from all 50 states and innumerable other countries. It is a major tourist destination on the east coast. You’ll find that the “pace of life” here has quickened agreeably through the years and if you’re traveling in the area, you’ll also find a warm welcome. Come learn about Williamsburg’s distinguished history and also enjoy its 21st-century pleasures. Our library, university, museums, historic sites, delightful shops, multi-starred restaurants and friendly, library-loving people look forward to your visit.”

Congratulations goess out to the Pueblo City-County Library District!
Not only did it make it to the finals in a national contest for the best library in the country, it captured the 2018 Leslie B. Knope Award by winning the Twitter poll and general voting.
The library made the “final four” last week and was one of 116 nominations submitted for the ‘Leslie Knope’ Award for Best Public Library. The nomination was put on by an organization called ‘Engaging Local Government Leaders.’
The library posted to Facebook last Monday, that it was 1,000 votes behind Williamsburg, VA as the top two in the contest. Voting ended on Friday, with Pueblo taking the top spot.
Although the winner doesn’t get a monetary prize, the community is buzzing.
“The incredible prize has really just been the way Pueblo has totally rallied around the library. It’s been so heart-warming and awesome every week to read people’s comments about how they feel about their library, how proud they are of their community,” said Midori Clark of the Pueblo City-County Library District.
The award is named after a fictitious character in the NBC sitcom “Parks and Rec.”
