New cyclist focused businesses opening on the VA Capital Trail

Businesses are starting to sprout up to service the needs of cyclists on the Virginia Capital Trail, James City County is pleased to announce that Spoke + Art Provisions Co. is now open at 3449 John Tyler Highway along the Virginia Capital Trail. The business offers a community gathering spot and retail shop on the Virginia Capital Trail. Spoke + Art Provisions Co. is open daily from noon until 4 p.m.
Currently, the retail shop portion of the new business is open and offers green goods, gifts, and artwork. Beginning in spring 2018, Spoke + Art Provisions Co. will have a juice and coffee bar, lunch counter and bike rentals.

Spoke + Art Provisions Co. is co-owned by Steve Rose and Jennifer Raines and is the first James City County business to open along the Virginia Capital Trail. Both Rose and Raines have deep roots in the Greater Williamsburg region. Rose owns County-based

Williamsburg Event Rentals and formerly operated Eco-Discovery Park. Raines is the owner of Quirks of Art located at 423 Prince George Street in Williamsburg. Rose and Raines are also co-founders of CultureFix VA, a non-profit organization which aims to enhance cultural arts for residents and visitors through events and creative placemaking in the Greater Williamsburg region.

Heading out on the trail to Charles City County cyclists will soon be able to stop for a cold drink and a quick bite at Indian Fields Tavern. Yes, that Indian Fields, one of the area’s fine-dining eateries of the ’90s. The storied restaurant is reopening on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 for lunch and dinner and plans to cater to bikers rolling down the trail.

Indian Fields Tavern features American bistro fare and craft beer in a rustic farmhouse setting. The beverage menu currently includes cocktails, beer and local wine. The food focuses on fresh seasonal ingredients while showcasing small local farms.

If the food and screened porches of the old farmhouse don’t entice you to pull on your bike shorts, maybe the brewery they plan to open there in 2018 will.
