More than 200 years of Oktoberfest traditions come to life this fall at Busch Gardens® Bier Fest. Raise a glass to toast the end of summer with a variety of craft beers from around the globe. Sample traditional German food, listen to live music, and experience all this unique Bavarian celebration has to offer. Prost!

Watermen’s Museum Yorktown Music Jamboree, September 1

Come and enjoy us first Fridays for an evening of music and fun along the beautiful York River.

Spy Craft, September 2

Calling all families to save the Revolution! See what sort of codes and ciphers General Washington and his army used to send messages to each other and thwart the British army. Drop in and try your hand at reading and writing secret messages just like Revolutionary spies.

Mysterious Moonlight Canoe Tour, September 2

There is no better way to enjoy the full moon than from a canoe on the beautiful Taskinas Creek. We’ll enjoy the sights and sounds of the marsh at night as we paddle slowly up the placid creek. One experienced canoeist per canoe required.

Awesome Osprey Hike, September 2

Our seasonal bird of prey returns to the Chesapeake Bay region. This ranger guided hike highlights the Osprey’s role in the estuarine ecosystem. Guests are encouraged to bring cameras and viewing gear.

Movies Under the Stars, September 1

Comedy Club of Williamsburg Presents Mike Easmeil with Chris Allen, September 2

Live Stand Up Comedy Performance! Mike, a Palestinian-American comedian living in Virginia Beach is a favorite in comedy clubs all over. His comedy revolves around life as an Arab American and having fun with the absurd realities we take as normal everyday. A regular at the New York Arab American Comedy Festival, Mike has also performed internationally in Jerusalem and Bethlehem and on some of America’s most prestigious stages including Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center. “Pottery” Exhibit at the Gallery at York Hall, September 2-30

Past Plantations Tour, September 2

Take a ride through the remains of Taskinas Plantation. Our staff archaeologist has made discoveries of forts, slave quarters, workshops, and relics of the colonial past.

Kick off your Labor Day weekend celebration at the Williamsburg Farmers Market! Over 40 vendors will bring meats, produce, mushrooms, flowers, artisan chocolate, cheese, honey, baked goods, peanuts and handmade soaps.

Yorktown Market Days, Saturdays through October (except for Oct 7)
Featuring over 35 local farmers, producers, vendors, and artists throughout the season, including a variety of homegrown favorites and local art.  Delicious food, exciting entertainment, beautiful and inspiring artwork, and a view beyond compare. Weekly live music entertainment.  Shoppers can enjoy the added bonus of watching local chefs demonstrate the preparation of various dishes on select Saturdays.

Art Escape Weekend, September 8 – 10
2017 marks another anniversary – 10 years of Art Escape Weekend! Started by the region’s 30-plus art galleries in 2007, in this 10th year, restaurants, regional breweries, distilleries and wineries will join Art Escape by hosting artists and musicians.David Everett’s 7th Annual Farm to Table Dinner, September 8

In conjunction with the “Pocahontas Imagined” special exhibition, Karen Sherry, art historian and former curator of American Art for the Portland Museum of Art in Maine and associate curator of art at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, will present a public lecture, “Pocahontas in Image and Myth.”

Fossil Frenzy Hike, September 9 & 16

Early whales, porpoises, sharks, clams, scallops, and snails all left traces of their existence which we now find as fossils. Join us in discovering relics of these very old creatures as we hike to a fossil beach. At York River State Park.

Black Settlement Presentation and Book Signing at Freedom Park, September 9

Join Col. Lafayette Jones Jr., a descendant of those that lived on the Free Black Settlement at Freedom Park for a presentation and book signing.

Patriot’s International Triathlon, September 9
Just minutes from I-64 in Williamsburg, VA the Patriot’s International is a must do event. After a 1,500 meter swim in the James River athletes will ride through 24 miles of rural countryside on mostly flat terrain and good pavement.

Watching Over My Girls, September 6

On May 6, 1943, the USO opened in Merchants Square as the “home away from home” for servicemen stationed nearby during World War II. Senior Hostess Dorothy Tully shares stories of the Williamsburg USO and the girls who would be her Junior Hostesses. Discover what it took to be a USO Hostess.

Age of Sail, September 5

Join us for an Age of Sail-themed concert with Colonial Williamsburg’s Balladeer Kent LaRue and Emmy Award-winning composer and violinist Wayne Hill. Instrumental and vocal selections are included from the golden age of piracy through the Napoleonic Wars, with tunes from the War of 1812.

Virginia Symphony Concert at Yorktown (Rescheduled date), September 13

Virginia Symphony Concert, 7:30 pm. Pre-concert performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town and picnic judging, 6 pm.  Pack a picnic supper, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy the performance under a canopy of stars.

Williamsburg Contemporary Artisans Festival, September 16
Contemporary artisans take over Duke of Gloucester Street for a day-long festival to demonstrate their crafts and sell their handmade wares.

The Tempest at Jamestown Settlement, September 14 – 16

An adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” will be performed aboard Jamestown Settlement’s re-creations of the Susan Constant and in the colonial fort.

During this special evening walking tour, guests will be led through the colonial town site and see the dramatic events unfold through the eyewitness account of Thomas Matthew, a Burgess in 1676. Controlled fires re-create the burning of Jamestown as it occurred on September 19, 1676.

Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens, Weekends from September 22 – October 29

Fill fall nights with fright at Busch Gardens® Howl-O-Scream®. At the stroke of 6 p.m. the park becomes home to a host of creepy creatures that lie in wait for unsuspecting victims. Fear abounds in the Virginia theme park’s collection of elaborate haunted houses, immersive themed Terror-tories™ and darkly entertaining live shows.

Yorktown Art Stroll, September 24

This one-of-a-kind event will meld local businesses with artists and their work.  Enjoy a stroll through the town while each artist displays and sells their work in various shops and businesses in Yorktown, including Riverwalk Landing and the Freight Shed.

The Tempest at Jamestown Settlement, September 21 – 23

Canoeing Under the Stars at York River State Park, September 22

Get away from the bright lights of the city and spend an evening with us looking at the night sky. For an added touch, we’ll enjoy it from a canoe! Whether you’re an expert on the stars and planets or a novice, you’ll still enjoy this peaceful trip on the creek.

The People Who Forged Civilization, September 21

Join master storyteller Shel Browder for myths and stories about the men and women who forged the tools of war and peace, creating civilizations out of sweat and fire. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition From Forge and Furnace: A Celebration of Early American Iron.

Murder or Misfortune? The Tragic Death of Robert Routledge, September 23

In June 1766, Virginia merchant Robert Routledge was stabbed in public by Colonel John Chiswell. Or was he? Was it murder or was it a tragic misfortune? Join historian Carson Hudson for an interactive recreation of the most controversial crime in 18th-century Virginia.

Night Hike at York River State Park, September 23

Longleaf Pine Basket Weaving Workshop, September 23

In this basket weaving workshop, you’ll learn how to weave baskets from the needles of the longleaf pine, a tree once common in Virginia and long prized for its utility in shipbuilding.
