🎸 Why I Never Miss Riverrock (And Why You Shouldn’t Either)

By John Womeldorf – Mr. Williamsburg

If you know me at all, you know this: I’m a huge music fan.

Live music. Outdoor stages. A river nearby. Food trucks. Happy people. No ticket fees.

That’s pretty much my happy place.

Which is why I’ve been going to Dominion Energy Riverrock for years — and why I’m already excited about May 15–17, 2026.

If you’ve never been, Riverrock is one of those events that makes you stop and say:

“Wait… this is FREE?”

Yep. Totally free. And totally fantastic.

🌊 What Is Riverrock, Anyway?

Riverrock is part outdoor adventure festival, part music festival, and part giant community hangout — all set along Richmond’s beautiful James River.

It’s produced by Sports Backers and Venture Richmond, and it’s now in its 18th year. That alone tells you how special this event is.

You’ll see:

  • Trail runners
  • Mountain bikers
  • Kayakers
  • Climbers
  • Yogis
  • Families
  • Music lovers
  • And plenty of folks just there to soak it all in

It’s active, relaxed, energetic, and welcoming — all at the same time.

🚧 A New Layout in 2026 (Same Great Vibe)

With improvements underway on Brown’s Island, the festival footprint will shift in 2026 to nearby riverfront areas including Tredegar Street, Tredegar Green, and surrounding downtown spaces.

Translation?

Different layout.
Same Riverrock energy.

All concerts will take place at the Allianz Amphitheater — and they’re still free and open to everyone.

🎶 The 2026 Music Lineup (And Why I’m Excited)

Now let’s get to the good stuff.

🔹 Friday – May 15

  • 6:30–7:30 PM — Bucko
  • 8:00–9:30 PM — Clay Street Unit

Local flavor meets mountain-meets-Appalachia Americana. A perfect way to kick things off.

🔹 Saturday – May 16

  • 1:00–1:45 PM — Dhemo
  • 2:05–2:55 PM — Cassidy Snider & The Wranglers
  • 3:10–4:10 PM — Willie Williams
  • 4:30–5:45 PM — Wolph
  • 6:15–7:30 PM — SNACKTIME
  • 8:00–9:30 PM — Circles Around The Sun

Saturday is always my favorite. Wander all afternoon, catch great sets, grab dinner, then settle in for a big night show. Festival living at its best.

🔹 Sunday – May 17

  • 1:00–1:50 PM — Jack Stepanian
  • 2:10–3:10 PM — Deau Eyes
  • 3:30–5:00 PM — Illiterate Light

Sunday is laid-back, feel-good, and the perfect way to close out the weekend.

🏃‍♂️ It’s Not Just Music

One of the things that makes Riverrock special is that it’s more than a concert.

Throughout the weekend, you’ll find:

  • Trail runs
  • Mountain bike races
  • Yoga sessions
  • Fishing competitions
  • Outdoor demos
  • Family activities

So even if you’re “just there for the music” (like me most years), there’s always something fun happening nearby.

💰 Did I Mention It’s Free?

Let me say it again:

🎟️ FREE
🎶 FREE MUSIC
🌊 FREE FUN

No tickets. No gates. No excuses.

Just show up and enjoy.

❤️ Why I Keep Coming Back

As someone who loves live music and loves our region, Riverrock checks every box:

✔ Great bands
✔ Great setting
✔ Great people
✔ Zero cost
✔ Easy day trip from Williamsburg

It’s one of those events that reminds you how lucky we are to live in this part of Virginia.

So if you’ve never been — make this the year.

And if you’ve been before — I’ll probably see you there.

👋 About Me

I’m John Womeldorf — better known around here as Mr. Williamsburg — and I’ve been helping people buy, sell, and settle into homes across Williamsburg, Richmond, and the greater Hampton Roads region for more than 20 years.

But I don’t just sell real estate.

I see myself first and foremost as a local guide and community ambassador. Whether you’re relocating from across the country, downsizing for retirement, buying your first home, or just starting to explore what life in this area might look like, my goal is to help you feel confident, informed, and excited about your next chapter.

Through my website, MrWilliamsburg.com, and my “Every Home Has a Story” series, I love sharing what makes our neighborhoods, events, businesses, and people so special. From music festivals and farmers markets to hidden hiking trails and great local restaurants, I believe lifestyle matters just as much as square footage.

Over the years, I’ve helped hundreds of clients — military families, retirees, professionals, and growing families — navigate one of the biggest financial and personal decisions of their lives. I bring deep local knowledge, honest advice, and a steady hand to every transaction, because this isn’t just about closing deals. It’s about building long-term relationships.

If you’re thinking about buying, selling, or relocating to the area — or even if you’re just starting to explore — I’d love to be a resource for you.

I’m John Womeldorf — also known as Mr. Williamsburg. I’ve been helping people buy and sell homes across Williamsburg, Richmond, and Hampton Roads for over 20 years, and I love sharing what makes our region such a great place to live.
