Cook’s Burger Bar’s “Classics for Classrooms” Is On Pace to Award $7,500+ Annually to Local Teachers

WILLIAMSBURG, VA (January 13, 2026) — One of my favorite things about living and working in Williamsburg is seeing local businesses step up in meaningful ways, and Cook’s Burger Bar is doing just that with its Classics for Classrooms initiative.

In partnership with Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools (WJCC Schools), the program has already awarded more than $2,450 to eight local teachers — and it’s well on track to exceed $7,500 annually in classroom support.

Launched in August, Classics for Classrooms donates 25 cents from every in-house “Cook’s Classic” burger sold at both Williamsburg locations. Each month, community-nominated WJCC teachers are selected, with the eight educators recognized so far receiving an average of $300 each to purchase classroom supplies, fund special projects, and enhance their students’ learning experiences.

“Our guests have really embraced the idea that a burger can make a difference,” said Andrew Voss, co-founder of Against the Grain Restaurants, the restaurant group behind Cook’s. “We wanted to do something that went beyond the plate — something that connected our restaurants directly to the people shaping the next generation.”

What really stands out to me is how community-driven this effort is. Parents, students, fellow teachers, and neighbors have submitted nearly 200 heartfelt nominations so far. Community members can continue to nominate public school teachers each month at

Dr. Daniel Keever, Superintendent of WJCC Schools, summed it up perfectly:

“Classics for Classrooms highlights so much good that surrounds us: our passionate educators who make a difference in the lives of every child, families and friends that nominate their teachers for much-deserved recognition, our community’s support with every Cook’s Classic burger they order and, most of all, Cook’s Burger Bar that passionately celebrates and honors our teachers month after month.”

As the initiative continues to grow, Cook’s Burger Bar plans to maintain its partnership with WJCC Schools and explore opportunities to expand Classics for Classrooms to future locations across Virginia.

Cook’s currently operates two Williamsburg locations:

This is a great reminder that sometimes supporting local education can be as simple — and enjoyable — as ordering a great burger.
