If you’ve ever watched rowers glide across the water in perfect unison and thought, “That looks amazing,” here’s your chance to try it for yourself — for free!
The Williamsburg Boat Club is hosting National Learn to Row Days on Saturday and Sunday, June 7 & 8 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Chickahominy Riverfront Park — and everyone’s invited to experience the sport firsthand.
Whether you’re 10 or 70+, rowing is the ultimate lifelong sport. It builds strength, coordination, balance, and teamwork. It’s low-impact, meditative, and social — and there’s nothing quite like watching the sun rise from the seat of a boat.
What to Expect
Each day offers the same beginner-friendly program, so you can attend on the date that works best for you. Programming includes:
Basic equipment introduction Technique instruction both on land and on the water Safety overview A chance to get in the boat and try rowing on the scenic Chickahominy River
No experience is required, and all ages are welcome — though for safety reasons, only participants age 10 and up will be permitted on the water.
The event is free, but pre-registration is encouraged to help organizers prepare.

Not to worry — Williamsburg Boat Club offers Learn-to-Row classes all summer long for both youth and adults. Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, a low-impact fitness routine, or a fun way to spend time outdoors, rowing is worth a try.
