Grand Illumination & Williamsburg Christmas Market: Why the Holidays in Williamsburg Still Feel Magical in 2025
November 21, 2025 • Williamsburg, Virginia
Christmas has always been one of my favorite seasons to call Williamsburg home. When the garlands go up, the cressets glow, and the sound of fifes and carols drifts down Duke of Gloucester Street, this town feels like it was built for December. Whether you’re a longtime resident or someone daydreaming about relocating here, the holidays show Williamsburg at its absolute best.

Colonial Williamsburg has released its full lineup of free holiday programming, including Grand Illumination, the Celebration of the Yule Log, cresset lighting nights, and more. You can always find official updates here:

Why I Share These Holiday Updates
As someone who has lived, worked, and raised a family here, I love showing people what makes Williamsburg special—beyond the brochures and real estate listings.
Many of my clients tell me that visiting during the holidays is what convinced them Williamsburg was the right place to call home. The traditions, the walkability, the sense of community… it all shines this time of year.
If you’re planning a December visit and wondering whether Williamsburg could be home someday, I’m always happy to talk neighborhoods, lifestyle, and local favorites.
