Habitat ReStore on Jamestown Road Announces Expansion

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Williamsburg storefront

James City County is pleased to announce that Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Jamestown Road will expand their store an additional 17,600 square feet. This is the third expansion of this location and will bring the total space to 40,616 square feet.  The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Williamsburg opened at 1303 Jamestown Road in the Colony Square Shopping Center in April 2012 and just celebrated its seventh anniversary.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a local home improvement and donation center that accepts donations and sells home improvement merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat ReStore sells a variety of items such as new or gently-used furniture, appliances, housewares and building materials. The profits from the Habitat ReStore funds the Habitat for Humanity homebuyer program that builds and renovates homes for sale to local families with low and moderate incomes.

“We are fortunate to have the most successful ReStore in Virginia and we are excited to expand our store’s footprint so that we can continue the mission of Habitat for Humanity,” said Jonathan Martinez, the Williamsburg ReStore manager. “Without the donations from local businesses and residents and help from our dozens of volunteers, this wouldn’t be possible.”

The Williamsburg ReStore has seen incredible growth over the past seven years and with the Newport News location (371 Chatham Drive), the pair of Habitat ReStores have net enough funds to build over 75 affordable homes locally.

Habitat ReStore in Williamsburg and the ReStore in Newport News are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Both locations are part of the Habitat for Humanity Peninsula & Greater Williamsburg (Habitat PGW), which serves Virginia families with low and moderate incomes in the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Williamsburg, plus the counties of Charles City, James City, New Kent and York. Habitat PGW was founded in 1985. The local affiliate has built, renovated and repaired more than 250 homes since its founding in 1985. Habitat relies on building partnerships, volunteer labor and donated materials to continue to sell decent, affordable housing to homebuyers with excellent credit, an income between 45-80 percent of the area median income and the ability to pay for their new Habitat home. Families purchase the Habitat home with a no-interest, 20 to 30-year mortgage carried by Habitat.

Habitat ReStore offers free donation pickup, running six large trucks for donations too big to be dropped off by donors.

“Donating to the ReStore is an easy way for people to get involved in a good cause,” said Director of ReStore Marketing Mark Hennaman. “The success of the ReStores are very dependent on partnerships formed within the community, and we hope everyone will continue to donate to Habitat.”

Habitat ReStore helps to protect the environment by recycling, reusing and repurposing items and materials. When a gently-used building material or household product is donated to the Habitat ReStore and then sold at a discount to a community member that needs it, that item is recycled and kept out of the landfill. In addition, donations to Habitat ReStore are tax deductible.
