Homes.com’s Super Bowl Hype vs. Reality: A Look at the Numbers

If you’re like me, you probably saw the Homes.com Super Bowl ad—an undeniably funny, big-budget production aimed at convincing viewers they’re the best in the real estate space. The problem? Best at what, exactly? Because when you peel back the layers of marketing fluff, the numbers paint a much different picture.

The Claim: Homes.com is the #1 Real Estate Website

Did the ad flat-out say that? Not exactly. But it heavily implied it, with vague statements about traffic growth and homebuyer engagement that conveniently lacked real data. And sure, I’ve got my own beefs with Zillow (I’ll get to that in a second), but the reality is Zillow is still the most visited real estate site in the U.S.—by a landslide.

The Reality Check: Zillow vs. Homes.com by the Numbers

Let’s break it down with actual January 2025 traffic stats:

That’s right. Zillow had nearly 270 million visits in January, while Homes.com pulled in just under 30 million. And yet, Homes.com wants you to believe they’re the dominant force in online real estate? Nah. That’s marketing spin at its finest.

Why This Matters (Especially if You’re a Real Estate Agent)

If you’re an agent paying Homes.com for leads, premium placement, or any kind of extra exposure, you might want to reconsider where you’re spending your money. Their traffic is nowhere near Zillow’s. And while I don’t love Zillow’s model either, at least I know that when I put a listing on there, it’s getting seen—by a whole lot more people.

So, don’t buy into the hype. Homes.com might have a flashy ad, but at the end of the day, traffic matters—and they just don’t have it.
