Innovative New School Planning Launch in Williamsburg – Community Interest Meeting Set for April 3
By John Womeldorf | March 30, 2025 | Williamsburg, VA
A new educational initiative is in the works in Williamsburg, and it’s generating excitement among educators, artists, and community members alike. The Williamsburg Academy for Innovation & The Arts is a proposed independent school set to launch in Fall 2025, initially serving students in grades 3–8, with plans to expand through grade 12 by 2026.
Founded by a group of local residents, the academy will focus on a dynamic, forward-thinking model of education that integrates traditional academics with creativity, entrepreneurship, leadership, and real-world learning experiences. The vision includes project-based learning, small class sizes, flexible enrollment, and a strong emphasis on collaboration across disciplines.

To begin building its team and network, the school is hosting a Community Interest Meeting on Thursday, April 3, from 6:00–7:00 PM at the Windsor Forest Clubhouse, located at 108 Wyndham Way in Williamsburg.
The meeting is open to educators (referred to as “guides”), artists, staff, and potential community partners who are interested in being a part of the school’s development. Attendees will learn more about the academy’s mission, programs, and opportunities to get involved. Light refreshments will be provided, and organizers ask that those interested RSVP in advance using the QR code provided in the official flyer.
The academy’s approach will include self-paced core academics, hands-on history and leadership development, studio arts, theater, filmmaking, STEM-based startup challenges, and community fieldwork. Its goal is to cultivate creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and changemakers ready to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
Organizers note they are still searching for a permanent facility to house the school and are seeking local partners for both space and programming support.
While I am not directly involved with the project, I wanted to share this information because it’s a truly exciting effort being led by some of my neighbors—and it has the potential to offer something very special to families in our area. As someone deeply invested in the Williamsburg community, I make it a point to highlight creative, community-driven projects like this—especially those that help build connection, spark curiosity, and move our region forward.

Why I’m Sharing This
As someone who’s deeply rooted in the Williamsburg area, I believe strong communities are built not just through homes and businesses—but through education, creativity, and collaboration. Whether it’s a local event, a new business, or an exciting project like this one, I love sharing information that helps connect people with the energy and innovation happening all around us. If something catches my eye and seems like it could benefit others, I’m happy to help spread the word.
