Luxury Tiny Homes Are Taking Over This College Campus

Whether you just graduated or it’s been years since you last walked through the halls of your alma mater, one thing that sticks with you is the experience of dorm life. Every campus offers different living options—some feature suite-style rooms with shared bathrooms, others provide singles, but most students have dealt with the stereotypical dorm: cramped two-person rooms with shared communal bathrooms for the entire floor.

Many universities have upgraded their student housing, offering apartment-style living that is certainly more comfortable than traditional dorms, though often still a bit basic. However, one North Carolina college, High Point University (HPU), has taken student housing to a whole new level, introducing an innovative, luxurious, and trendy alternative—an entire community of tiny homes.

HPU’s luxury tiny home village has been getting major attention, particularly on Instagram. A post from @tinyhouse.top featuring a reel of these adorable homes quickly went viral, racking up over 23,000 likes. But this idea isn’t entirely new. HPU first introduced this unique housing option in the fall of 2022 and has been showcasing it on TikTok, with videos offering full tours of these cozy homes in a style reminiscent of Caleb Simpson.

Each tiny home is essentially an open-concept apartment designed for one person, offering all the amenities you’d expect in a modern living space. There’s a functional kitchen, a comfortable living room, a dining area, and even a lofted bedroom with a walk-in closet. And the perks don’t stop there—each home comes with its own outdoor space, providing enough room for students to have a small yard, perfect for those with pets. The community is well-designed, with every home offering at least one parking spot out front and charming yard space.

According to HPU’s website, each tiny home is fully equipped with a full-size bed, kitchen appliances, and a furnished living area complete with a study desk. The total square footage for each home is around 500 square feet, making it a comfortable yet compact space for independent living. Of course, the price for this luxury isn’t cheap—rent runs at $17,541 per year, which breaks down to about $1,462 per month. However, the appeal of living solo in a private tiny home within walking distance of classes and campus amenities makes it a highly desirable option.

The location is a major draw. As one student mentioned in a TikTok video, classes are within walking distance, and the basketball arena is right across the street. The tiny home community is also situated near other housing options and the new Panther Commons residence hall, which features amenities like a gym, exercise classes, a barbershop, and even a nail salon.

While these tiny homes are on the higher end of campus housing, they offer a unique and luxurious living experience that many students find worth the investment. If you were still in school, would you dream of living in a tiny home like this?

HPU has certainly raised the bar with this creative take on student housing, blending practicality and style for those seeking something beyond the traditional dorm room experience.
