Virginia Symphony Orchestra Returns with Free Outdoor Concerts in Yorktown and Williamsburg
Summer evenings in Greater Williamsburg are about to get even more magical. The Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is once again bringing its beloved Free Summer Concert Series to Yorktown and Williamsburg—giving locals and visitors the chance to experience world-class music in two of our region’s most scenic settings.
Yorktown – Saturday, August 30, 2025
The first local performance will be held at Riverwalk Landing in Historic Yorktown on Saturday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m.. Now in its 27th year, this riverside tradition is one of the most beloved summer events on the Peninsula.

The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with the Fifes and Drums of York Town, followed by the spirited Blue Ribbon Picnic Contest. Families and friends are encouraged to pack their best picnic spreads, bring lawn chairs, and claim a spot along the York River before the music begins.
Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin will lead the orchestra through a powerful program featuring Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Sibelius’s Finlandia, Rodgers’s Victory at Sea, John Williams’s Hymn to the Fallen, and more patriotic and cinematic favorites.
This concert is presented by the Celebrate Yorktown Committee, with support from local sponsors and community organizations that ensure this free tradition continues year after year. Full details are available at Visit Yorktown’s concert page.
Williamsburg – Friday, September 5, 2025
A week later, the VSO takes the stage at Lake Matoaka Amphitheater in Williamsburg on Friday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m.. With its wooded backdrop and lakeside setting, this concert offers an enchanting experience unique to Williamsburg.

Admission is free, but seating is limited. Wristbands are required and will be distributed starting at 6:00 p.m. at the amphitheater box office. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets for a relaxed evening of music under the stars. Please note: outside alcohol and glass containers are not permitted, but food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome.
This concert is presented by the City of Williamsburg and William & Mary, whose partnership makes it possible to host this annual community event. More information can be found at the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s event listing.
