Walmart Neighborhood Market opens next Wed in Williamsburg

Walmart will open Williamsburg’s first Walmart Neighborhood Market on Wednesday, Sept 28, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:00 a.m.

The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at the corner of Monticello Ave and Casey Blvd in Settlers Market.

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are more than 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide. The store will feature prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, a self-serve deli and a bakery. The full-service pharmacy will offer a full range of products and services.

It will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m., seven days a week.

The store will also feature financial services and Walmart Site-to-Store, which allows customers to order merchandise online at Walmart.com and have it shipped to the store for pickup.

The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $4,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups. Grant recipients include the Williamsburg Police Department, Williamsburg Fire Department, Williamsburg Kiwanis Club and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

  • New Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 12840 Beach Blvd. in Stanton
  • About 65 jobs at the Stanton Walmart Neighborhood Market
  • Store open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.

New Store, New Jobs
The Stanton Neighborhood Market employs about 65 full- and part-time associates. More than 2,000 applicants submitted interest in working at the new store. Store manager Nelisa Blackwell began her Walmart career in 2000 as an overnight stocker in Orange, California. She was promoted to an assistant and shift manager, before becoming a store manager last year in Anaheim.

"I am proud to be a part of the new Walmart Neighborhood Market in the City of Stanton," said Blackwell. "It gives me great pleasure to be able to offer fresh and affordable products to my local community. I hope everyone comes out on grand opening day to see all the great things we have."

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are more than 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide, including about 30 in California. The store will feature prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, a self-serve deli and a bakery. The full-service pharmacy will offer a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

The store will fill a vacant retail space, helping revitalize the shopping center. The new store will also include energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy, water consumption and minimize waste. All internally illuminated exterior building signage will use light emitting diodes (LEDs). Highly efficient and low-flow toilets and faucets will reduce the water used in the restrooms. The store will also operate recycling programs and promote sustainable product purchases.

"I am excited to see this new store open," said Connie Pedenko, President and CEO of the West Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce. "In addition to creating 65 new jobs, having a Walmart here will help re-energize this shopping center and bring more customers to surrounding businesses, ultimately strengthening our local economy."

Community Giving
Walmart supports local charitable causes that are important to the communities it serves. In the last fiscal year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation donated $1.7 million to organizations that serve the residents of Orange County.

"We are pleased to welcome the Walmart Neighborhood Market to Stanton," said Stanton Mayor David J. Shawver. "In the past few months, the store and its associates have already begun being involved in the community, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Walmart in the future."

The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $7,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Grant recipients include Stanton Boys and Girls Club, Stanton Community Foundation, Stanton Police Department and Vietnamese Community of Orange County.

A Big Family Welcome
Walmart is happy to be part of the Stanton community and is ready to celebrate with residents on Saturday, August 31. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Blackwell and enjoy fun family activities, and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
