Williamsburg City Council Provides Update on School System Study

Today, the Williamsburg City Council responded to James City County’s recent request for an update on the ongoing study of the joint school system and academic outcomes for city students. While the City Council remains committed to staying in the joint school system, the review has highlighted some areas where the current structure falls short.

To address these deficiencies, the Council believes that a modernized joint operating agreement is needed—one that allows the City to tackle existing issues while preserving the advantages of a shared school division. The goal is to ensure a system that continues to provide high-quality education for both city and county students.

In the coming weeks, the City Council looks forward to collaborating with the James City County Board of Supervisors and the Williamsburg-James City County School Board. Together, they aim to develop a new contract that enhances educational opportunities and outcomes for all students. Updates on the progress of these discussions will be shared as they become available.
