2nd Sundays Returns to Williamsburg for Its 17th Season – Sunday, March 8, 2026

One of my favorite recurring events in Williamsburg is back.

If you’ve lived in the area for any length of time, you’ve probably wandered through 2nd Sundays, the vibrant street festival that transforms downtown Williamsburg into a six-block celebration of art, music, food, and community.

The festival returns for its 17th season on Sunday, March 8, and it runs from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the heart of downtown Williamsburg.

What makes this event especially remarkable is that it was created and produced by the incredibly talented Shirley Vermillion, who—largely through determination and vision—built this event from the ground up into one of the most beloved festivals in the region.

Over the years, Shirley has created something that feels less like a street fair and more like a monthly reunion of artists, musicians, makers, and neighbors.

As Shirley recently said about the start of a new season:

“It feels like a bit of a family reunion. We miss the artists, they miss each other, they miss their customers. I miss seeing them.”

And if you’ve ever attended, you know exactly what she means.

What You’ll Find at 2nd Sundays

The event stretches across six blocks of downtown Williamsburg, including:

  • North Boundary Street (Richmond Rd. to Lafayette St.)
  • Scotland Street (Boundary to N. Henry)
  • Prince George Street (400 & 500 blocks)

Across that area you’ll discover:

  • 190+ unique artisans and makers
  • Live music and street performers
  • Local food vendors and dessert trucks
  • Up to 14 food trucks
  • A beer and beverage garden near the Stryker Main Stage (412 N Boundary St.)
  • Children’s activities and crafts
  • Pet-friendly atmosphere (well-behaved pups welcome)

In many ways, it’s like a full concert series, art market, and food festival rolled into one afternoon.

Or as Shirley puts it:

“Every 2nd Sundays is really a whole concert series in a day.”

A New Partnership for 2026

This season also introduces a new collaboration with Williamsburg Downtown called “Local All Stars.”

Throughout the event, visitors will be able to stop by a booth staffed by local volunteers offering:

  • Directions
  • Information about the festival
  • Tips about downtown Williamsburg
  • Recommendations from locals

The idea is simple: create a welcoming place where visitors can “Ask a Local.”

It’s not about selling anything — just sharing the spirit of neighborliness that makes Williamsburg such a special place.

A Special Musical Guest Coming in April

I’m especially excited about the April 12 event, because I’ll be helping bring a terrific touring band to town.

Stillhouse Junkies, traveling all the way from Durango, Colorado, will be performing at 2nd Sundays on April 12. Their sound has been described as “free-range folk,” a high-energy blend of bluegrass, Americana, and improvisational roots music.

If you enjoy live music that’s a little outside the box — and incredibly fun to watch — you won’t want to miss them.

Mark your calendar now and plan to come out and give them a warm Williamsburg welcome.

Volunteers Are Always Welcome

One thing I’ll mention — events like this don’t happen without help.

2nd Sundays is always looking for volunteers who want to be part of the festival and help keep things running smoothly throughout the day. It’s actually a fun way to meet people, support local artists, and see the event from behind the scenes.

Why I Love This Event

I’ve watched this festival grow over the years, and it’s honestly inspiring what Shirley Vermillion has built.

Without a massive organization behind her, she created something that now brings thousands of people together each month to celebrate creativity, music, local businesses, and community.

Events like this are a big part of what makes Williamsburg such a fun and vibrant place to live.

If you haven’t been in a while — or if you’ve never gone — this Sunday is the perfect time to check it out.

About the Author

If you’ve spent any time around Williamsburg real estate, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the name Mr. Williamsburg. That’s the nickname locals have given me over the years as I’ve helped buyers and sellers navigate the Greater Williamsburg area and surrounding communities from Virginia Beach to Richmond and everywhere in between.

But the truth is, I’ve always seen my role as something more than just a real estate agent. I like to think of myself as a local ambassador for the region—someone who loves introducing people to the places, events, and personalities that make this area such a special place to live. Whether it’s highlighting a neighborhood, supporting local music and festivals, or sharing the stories behind homes and communities, I enjoy helping people experience the lifestyle that makes Williamsburg unique.

I’ve been listing and selling homes in Virginia for more than 20 years, and today I work with Liz Moore & Associates, with offices in Williamsburg, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Kilmarnock, and Richmond. Over the years I’ve helped hundreds of families relocate, downsize, invest, build new homes, and find communities that truly fit their lifestyle.

If you’re thinking about buying or selling a home in Williamsburg or anywhere in coastal Virginia, I’d be happy to help guide you through the process.
