Williamsburg might soon have another Senior Housing Community

The Quarterpath development in Williamsburg is being eyed for a new, three-story senior housing complex.

Cameron General Contractors/ Resort Lifestyle Communities is looking to build a 130-unit independent living community for senior citizens at 4101 Battery Blvd, Williamsburg in the Riverside/ Quarterpath Development. The developer sought to amend the Cities Zoning Ordinance to allow Senior Housing as a permitted use in the Economic Development District ED.

Cameron was incorporated in 1989 and, together with its affiliate entity, Resort Lifestyle Communities (“RLC”), specializes in developing and operating luxury independent living communities for senior residents across the country. Cameron has developed 29 communities to
date, each of which are currently operated by RLC, and is currently in various phases of development for more than 25 additional communities. .Cameron RLC communities typically contain a total of 130 one, two and three-bedroom dwelling units in a single, three-story building consisting of approximately 180,000 square feet. Cameron’s building design consists of two wings of resident apartments with living suites, featuring full
kitchens, and a core area at the center of the building containing extensive common areas.
Numerous senior-friendly design features (e.g., shower seats, lower shelving height, prevalent grab bars) are included in each unit within a Cameron building.
Each of Cameron’s communities are operated by RLC and provide numerous amenities for residents on an “all-inclusive” basis, such as a community dining room, theater room, fitness center ,and other recreation facilities, library, chapel, beauty salon, 24-hour concierge service, valet
parking service and group transportation service. Each community is professionally staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and has live-in managers.

Bob Lewis, director of development at RLC, said the typical budget for these projects is roughly $25 million. It will be RLC’s second location in Virginia following a recent project in Goochland outside of Richmond.

RLC communities offer an all-inclusive lifestyle that includes three daily meals, weekly housekeeping, a wellness and fitness center, 150-seat theater, social calendar, transportation, valet parking, cable and internet, on-site health care providers and 24-hour emergency alert system.

Tenants are not tethered to their apartment by long-term contracts. No buy-ins or long-term leases are required as residents.

Residents normally have access to an in-house bank, pharmacy, gift shop, and salon — all of which will be open to the public.

A unique perk for renters is the resident travel program. Residents can travel between their different communities and stay for a week without an additional fee.
