According to the resident PGA professional at Cypress Creek, you may need to drive a little further to get to the course and you’ll pass a few other courses along the way. But for anyone who has ever had the pleasure of playing there, the extra effort is definitely worth the trip. Located in Smithfield, just across the James River from Williamsburg and Hampton/Newport News, Cypress Creek is a spectacular course designed by Ault, Clark and Associates in consultation with two-time U.S. Open Champion and the Tidewater’s most successful professional golfer, Curtis Strange. “The course is absolutely immaculate and it’s playable for any level of golfer,” says Woolwine. “And depending on how the wind is blowing, it can play differently every time you are out there.”

With a variety of ponds, marshes, open fields and other exceptional scenery, the course gives golfers an opportunity to utilize every club in their bag. And with five sets of tees to choose from, weekend duffers to scratch golfers can make it as hard, or as easy, as they like on themselves. Cypress Creek Golfers’ Club is semi-private so there are a number of membership levels available, or you can just pay as you play. Reservations can be made seven days in advance and there are a number of leagues for a wide variety of players including men, women, juniors and even a couple’s league for families who like to play together and meet new like-minded people.

The Curtis Strange Signature Course also includes a full Pro Shop to provide you with everything you need for a great day on the links. In fact, the Pro Shop was recently named Merchandiser of the Year by the PGA, based on their selection, stock and service, so if you need it, they have it. Cypress Creek also features the Snack Bar Grill so you can fuel up with a selection of fresh sandwiches that are made-to-order before you tee off, or you can make it the 19th hole after you’ve finished up for the day.

But not everybody plays Golf! Cypress Creek offers a Country Club lifestyle with it’s Jr. Olympic swimming pool, Tennis Courts, Basketball Courts, 200 person Clubhouse with full kitchen, lakes, waterfront access, RV Storage, and so much more.
