One Somerset Court: You belong in Windsor Forest
Every home has a story
A trip to Colonial Williamsburg over 20 years ago sealed the deal for Bill and Nancy Rosier.
“We have always loved Williamsburg,” Nancy says. “From the history here to the focus on traditional, high-end art, Williamsburg has been the perfect backdrop for our passions.”
Once they decided on their new hometown, it was time to find the perfect house and neighborhood.

How we met
Many of “Mr. Williamsburg’s” clients find him online, but Bill and Nancy met him after they moved to Windsor Forest.
“John lives right here in Windsor Forest!” Nancy exclaims.
As a resident who has raised his own family here, the Rosiers know that John is in a pretty good position to represent this community that he loves to potential buyers. So, when it came time to list their beloved home on Somerset Court, they reached out.
Of course, Windsor Forest has abundant amenities, both recreational and social, and is home to many families and generations of families. “Everyone knows everyone else here,” Nancy says. “We even have some families here who have both sets of grandparents living here too. It’s a great neighborhood.”
Turning a house into a home
When house hunting back in 2002, Nancy and Bill quickly agreed that Windsor Forest provided the right combination of aesthetic and social dynamic. “There weren’t but two houses available at the time,” Nancy says. “But what really sold us on this particular home is that once inside, we could see that it flows so well.”
Curb appeal is immediate. The two-story, 2448 square foot white colonial home with all-wood exterior is set back from the street on an angle. The property, which sits on a large half-acre lot, is exquisitely landscaped.

“We especially love the large tulip poplar tree in the front,” Nancy says. “Everything is so beautiful now that it’s spring, with trees and shrubs coming into bloom.”
Upon entering the home, visitors find themselves in a cheerful, sunny foyer. Nancy is an American folk artist, so light is naturally very important to her. She says that the light in this lovingly tended home is perfect.

To the left, there’s a generously sized living room with beautiful built-in floor-to-ceiling bookcases. All windows are large and feature real windowpanes (no plastic in between sheets of glass!). Floors are hardwood, finished in oak.
An elegant dining room is just off the foyer, to the right. The murals in the dining room are original creations by the artist herself. “Years ago, I couldn’t afford to have someone paint them for me, so I did them myself,” Nancy says.
Indeed, Nancy got her start from painting historically based 1800’s paintings called Theorem paintings, along with, of course, Colonial Williamsburg’s Folk Art Museum. The magazines and books she had long pored over focused increasingly on history and art, with readers endeavoring to accomplish a certain theme – and paying a tidy sum to artists to bring their vision to life.
Bill is a gifted artisan as well, blessed with woodworking and carpentry skills.
“Bill installed all of the trim, wainscoting and built-ins,” Nancy says.

Walk through the home to arrive at an expansive eat-in kitchen with a lovely bay window. The rooms on the first floor are painted in muted gray with white accents/trim. Countertops are finished in marbled granite and appliances are stainless. A sideboard, also finished with granite, provides even more space. There’s also an oversized pantry, which is a dream come true, and Bill even installed pull-outs inside the pantry for ease of item retrieval.
At the other end of the eat-in kitchen is an inviting family room that features a lovely fireplace with a raised, brick hearth and whimsical port light-type windows to either side. A sumptuous four-season sunroom is located off the family room.

Exit the sunroom to a beautiful deck, complete with retractable awning. Because the home is set back on an angle, the backyard is especially inviting and private.
As for that artist’s studio? There’s a spacious room just off the kitchen, accessed by a small flight of stairs, which could serve, in theory, as a fourth bedroom. Nancy, however, has used that sunny room as her studio. “That’s my space,” she says. “It’s where I go to get away and be creative. The lighting in there is perfection.”

The second floor boasts three good-sized carpeted bedrooms, and two full bathrooms. Bill has converted one of the upstairs bedrooms into a home office, as he remains very involved supporting local businesses with their IT and web management needs.

A large, unfinished space on the third floor, currently accessed through one of the 2nd floor bedrooms, has been used mostly for storage, but it could easily be finished.

The home features a two-car garage which Bill has turned into his own workshop, so naturally that space has been insulated. In addition to the many architectural accents he has created and installed, he also makes custom frames for his wife’s art.

Upgrades and improvements
Other than the sunroom and architectural details, there have been other upgrades over the years. Four years ago, the windows were replaced and in 2022, the flat roof on the sunroom was replaced, as was the exterior wooded siding on the bonus room.

History, art and travel
“We have so adored it here!” Nancy exclaims.
The couple met in high school, after which Bill entered the U.S. Air Force and Nancy earned her teaching degree. “When I came out of the Air Force, I decided on this new thing called data processing,” he says. “I got into that and over the years I became a corporate IT manager, working for Litton Industries and Dresser Industries.”
Over the span of their 60-year marriage, Williamsburg has been their 8th home, having moved to town in 2002. “We decided we might as well might as well live where we wanted to live, so we chose Williamsburg,” Nancy says.
As an artist, Nancy has found that she was able to immerse herself in work no matter where Bill’s career took them. Her career as an artist spans over 30 years, and her work has been featured in a variety of magazines and books.
“I got started in Ohio with pioneers like David T. Smith, known for his reproduction museum quality 18th & 19th century furniture. Ohio was really where I got serious about my art.”
Early on, Bill designed a website for his wife and the rest is history.
“When we moved here, I immediately got involved with art curators at CW and my career has just flourished,” Nancy says.
Leaving a special neighborhood
Though they look forward to living near their daughters, leaving Williamsburg is bittersweet for the couple.
“It’s sad to move,” Bill says. “But we wouldn’t leave if we didn’t feel the timing was right.”
At the end of the day, Nancy and Bill are grateful for health, each other, and for their family. The Rosiers have two grown daughters and six grandchildren, all living in the Midwest, so they want to be geographically closer to their family. They hope to find a similar home in Ohio, one with good bones and architectural character. They hope to land in a community much like the one they are leaving.

“We’ve so appreciated the friendliness of Windsor Forest,” Nancy says. “We also appreciate the diversity of residents, especially age wise.”
Windsor Forest is the kind of community where everyone waves. There is always something going on with many social functions sponsored by the volunteer HOA. People of all ages gather for events or to socialize at the clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, or playgrounds.

Location is another drawing point as Windsor Forest is about a 10-minute drive to Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary. The community is located in perfect proximity to shopping, medical services, and other local amenities.
In terms of schools, it’s zoned for J. Blaine Blayton Elementary, James Blair Middle and Lafayette High School.
Nancy and Bill agree that the time is right for them to chart their next course. “We feel like we are fairly healthy, by and large, but when you get in your 80s it’s time to plan ahead!” Nancy exclaims. “We’ll so miss our friends and neighbors here, though. Windsor Forest is such a neighborly community, and we will miss it here.”
“We will miss everything about it,” Bill says.
