East Coast Surfing Championship in VA Beach Celebrates 52nd Year Aug. 17-24

North America’s Oldest Running Surfing Competition will return to the shores of Virginia Beach.

More than 200 professional surfers come to compete for their share of a $125,000 total pro cash purse and ASP 4-Star points in the surfing competition at the heart of the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) beach sports festival. And, with nearly 1,000 entries in a variety of competitive levels, ECSC more surfers participating than any event in the world.

But ECSC is about more than just surfing. Over the past half century, ECSC has evolved into a unique weeklong celebration of beach sports, sounds and culture.  Recognized for years as one of the top events in the southeastern U.S., hundreds also take part in other competitions including BMX biking,  skimboarding, volleyball, an oceanfront 5K run, a swimsuit competition and more.
Live bands also perform for free on an oceanfront stage throughout the weekend. Country star Natalie Stovall and The Drive will perform Thursday night, Aug. 21, The Voice semi-finalist Bria Kelly will perform Friday evening, Aug. 22 and the Plain White Ts will take the stage Saturday night, Aug. 23.
There are fees to participate in competitions, but all other activities are free and open to the public.
