Ice Rink Skating Into New Town in Williamsburg

imageJames City County is going to have a white Christmas even if there’s no snow.

The County  is currently collecting bids to set up a synthetic ice rink in New Town this winter.

"The goal is to provide a healthy, safe and enjoyable family activity for local residents and visitors, and increase visitation to the retail businesses and restaurants in the area during the holiday season," the bid solicitation explains.

The county budgeted $95,000 for the rink, which will located at Sullivan Square. They’re not alone in the venture. Iron-Bound Gym committed sponsorship funds even before the budget was released and proposed to the Board of Supervisors this spring.

New Town Management is also collecting donations from various businesses throughout the mixed-use development and helping organize events, sales, decorations and marketing.
