Luxury Apartments coming to Ford’s Colony ?
Eaglescliffe at Ford’s Colony, Eagle’s Nest Luxury Apartments
Brian Ford with Ford’s Colony Realty has submitted a conceptual application to James City County Planning Division proposing to develop the remaining Eaglescliffe area of Fords Colony with 100 luxury apartment units instead of the originally proposed condos.
According to The Ford’s Colony Master Plan, the area containing Eaglescliffe and the Marriott Manor Club are designated for Apartments with a maximum of 314 units. At this time 224 units have already been constructed (200 in Marriot Manor Club and 24 condos in Eaglescliffe) With 224 units are existing, there are only 90 available units left in this section.
James City County Planning indicated it may be possible to transfer 10 units from another section of the development that has available units through a request for master plan consistency.The Zoning Administrator also noted the need for an outstanding traffic study due for the Ford’s Colony Development. This traffic study must be completed before any new development plans may be approved.
When initially planned the 84-unit Eaglescliffe Condominiums at Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg were to consist of seven four-story buildings, 12 units each, with condo units ranging from 1,700 to 2,100 square feet. The buildings in the Eaglescliffe section of Ford’s Colony are situated within walking distance to the adjacent country club, golf courses and walking trails.
Sales of the condos tanked as the real estate marked slowed back in 2008 and only two of the seven condo buildings was completed. Eventually the project was taken over by the lender Wells Fargo.
Each Condo building was designed with three stories of residential space over a lower parking and storage level. The condos featured Georgian-style brick exteriors ,covered balconies, screened porches and copper-roofed bay windows. Inside, each dwelling offers generous, open space and a flexible, dynamic plan adaptable for many uses. Typical condo units at Eaglescliffe have one or two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a flex room that may serve as a bedroom, library, office or den.
No word yet on design plans or anticipated rents for the Eagle’s Nest Luxury Apartments stay tuned for further updates as the project moves forward……………..
