Unique Rural Retreat in New Kent County

Every home has a story

John Womeldorf knows that every home has a story. As an experienced realtor with a deep love for Williamsburg and its surrounding areas, John looks beyond the basic features of the homes he sells. In his “Every Home Has A Story” series, John introduces potential buyers to the aspects of a home that they can’t see by viewing it online or attending a showing. By interviewing the sellers and writing about what makes each home so special, John helps his clients go from trying to see themselves living in an unfamiliar house to envisioning their family moving into their dream home.

When West Coast meets East Coast

When Tiffany and Austin Sibley were relocating to the Williamsburg area from the Pacific Northwest, the couple knew they wanted to find a home where all of their friends and family could come and visit and feel comfortable. They found everything they wanted and more at 20301 Holly Pines Lane.

After touring some homes in town, the Sibley’s were drawn to the idea of living a more quiet and private life in the country – different than the hustle and bustle that they were so accustomed to out west. They fell in love with the small town of Barhamsville, and found that 20301 Holly Pines was a unique rural retreat that was far more than just a home.

They loved that the house was country yet beachy. Being from the PNW, they loved the homes proximity to York River State Park and its coastal vibe. The mint green exterior and bright, open floor plan with neutral colors and tons of natural light reminded them of home.

Arguably one of the most unique homes in the Williamsburg area, the Sibley’s retreat features four different living quarters: a main house, guest house, pool house and carriage house. Altogether, the retreat consists of six bedrooms, eight bathrooms and nearly 7,000 square feet. The previous owners used the home as a residence as well as an income property, but the Sibley’s have used the multiple quarters for guests as well as for their adult daughter to have a place of her own.

The Main House

The Sibley’s main living quarters features vaulted ceilings with gorgeous white beams, a gas fire place, open floor plan, abundant natural light, hardwood floors and an incredibly spacious kitchen. The downstairs area was designed for entertaining, and includes a gorgeous 12-person dining room table that will stay with the home after the Sibley’s move.

The expansive kitchen, which Tiffany says is her favorite spot in the home, has state-of-the-art appliances, a wine refrigerator, granite countertops, a double oven, a warming cabinet and double dishwasher. The large island with gas stove and sink is one of Tiffany’s favorite parts about it because it’s bar height and has stools so visitors and family can chat with her while she’s cooking.

“Another aspect of the kitchen that I love is the storage – it is amazing,” Tiffany says. “I have a ton of kitchenware and have been able to store everything I own.” Tiffany says the layout of the kitchen is also perfect for cooking and that there is plenty of counter space.

Several sliding glass doors on the main level take you out to a sprawling deck with gorgeous views overlooking the backyard and pool area. The entire retreat features 2,000 square feet of Trex decking on three different levels. There is also a small room off of the main dining area that the Sibley’s use as an office space.

Upstairs is the master bedroom, which boasts four closets, an enormous bathroom, and two private balconies going off of the bedroom and bathroom.

The Guest House

Located just across from the main house is a guest house where the Sibley’s daughter has been living. It features a screened in porch as well as a bedroom and kitchenette.

The Carriage House

Connected to the two-car garage is what the Sibley’s call their Carriage House. It features a bedroom, exercise room (the equipment stays!) and bathroom.

The Pool House

Located on the ground level by the pool is the pool house, which is one of Tiffany’s favorite aspects of her home. When the Sibley’s have guests, they feel right at home with their own bedroom, full kitchen and luxurious steam shower.

Atop the pool house is a rooftop sun deck where the Sibley’s dogs love to lay in the sun and bark at squirrels.

The great outdoors

Situated on 6.5 acres, 20301 Holly Pines offers lots of privacy, which is something that drew Tiffany to the home. “I love that we have complete privacy yet my commute into Williamsburg is only 20 minutes,” she says. “You get the sanctuary of country living while being able to pop into the city for work, a bite to eat or to shop.”

The outdoor area will make you feel like you are on vacation every day with its inground pool, three stories of decking and covered cabana. The options for entertaining are endless.

First impressions

The biggest thing that drew the Sibley’s to the property is the uniqueness and versatility of it. They loved the idea that company can come and have their own separate areas. That was very important to them in their search for a home and having four different living quarters is pretty hard to come by.

For Tiffany, the kitchen is her favorite part of the entire property and the pool house is a close second. For Austin, it’s the steam shower in the pool house and the notion of being able to go from the pool to the steam shower in just a matter of steps.

The location of the home was also a huge draw. The Sibley’s looked at homes in Williamsburg but they had spent all of their lives in a city of some size. They wanted a slower pace and somewhere quiet. When they discovered this gem of a property and looked into Barhamsville, they realized that the home’s proximity to Interstate 64 gave them all of the benefits of country living while having what they saw as the perfect commute. “We really didn’t want to be driving an hour to work,” says Tiffany.

Moving back west

Tiffany is currently the Chief Medical Officer at Velocity Urgent Care, but has been offered an incredible opportunity back in Seattle that was too good to pass up. While the Sibley’s have loved their short stay at 20301 Holly Pines, they are hopeful that someone else will find this unique sanctuary as appealing as they have.

The Sibley’s have only been in the home for a year, and because it was move-in ready when they purchased it there weren’t many updates that needed to happen. However, they decided to install a new safety pool cover as well as new water tanks to improve the water pressure in the house.

“If you’re looking for the best in country living, this is it,” says Tiffany. “Not having neighbors close and being close to Williamsburg is great, but the home really is a sanctuary with its privacy, pool, entertainment spaces, cabana and decking. There is just nothing like it.”
