Commonwealth Green homes under construction in Yorktown

After some delays, residential condos are under construction at the 50-acre Commonwealth Green mixed-use development near Kiln Creek in York County.

The first three buildings with six condos are underway with the goal of having move-ins by June, said John Olivieri, president of 4th Generation Home Builders in Virginia Beach. Construction began in mid-November and he hopes to have a model home for the Mainstay at Commonwealth Green community by May.

Each building has two condos with a smaller one on the bottom and a larger one on top that connects with a downstairs garage, he said. The condos will range in size from 1,500 square feet to roughly 2,100 square feet. Eventually, the community will have 94 condos in 47 buildings within three to four years, Olivieri said.

Each building will look like one cohesive house and will have front and back porches, he said. Base prices start around $245,000 and $285,000, he said.

Mainstay at Yorktown will feature four unique models named after sailing ships that plied the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Seaboard. The Barque, Clipper, Schooner, and Cutter all are single level homes with spacious great rooms. Two and three bedroom plans offer flexibility for your lifestyle and life stages.

Exterior and interior features will set the Mainstay homes apart from the competition. Coastal Craftsman exteriors wrapped in Fiber Cement siding by James Hardie are not only beautiful but enduring. Interior features will include custom designed kitchens with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and 42” cabinets. Living area and bedrooms display an abundance of windows flooding these areas with natural light. Master suites offer separate showers and tubs, his and her sinks and walk-in closets. Flooring choices include hardwood, tile, and carpet.

Mainstay is on Keener Way off Commonwealth Drive, which extends from Victory Boulevard past the Regal movie theater and to the Commonwealth at York apartments. The 384-unit apartment complex finished construction in 2016 and was the first phase of the Commonwealth Green development.

Keener Way will connect to a roadway that will connect Commonwealth Green with Route 17 within a couple years, development partner Tom Tucker said.

Construction is expected to start in the first half of 2018 on another phase of Commonwealth Green featuring mixed-use townhomes in five buildings with three units each fronting Commonwealth Drive, Tucker said. The townhomes will feature commercial space with a garage on the ground floor and a 1,500-square-foot home on the second floor, he said. The middle unit in each building also will have a loft area.

Eventually, Commonwealth Green will add a 20,000-square-foot, two-story commercial building next to the Staybridge Suites and a community meeting and event space across from the Commonwealth at York apartments, Tucker said. About 10 acres near the community building will be a recreational park area with wetlands, he said.
