All these things and more are reason enough to put down stakes in Yorktown but with so many wonderful neighborhoods to choose from it can be tough to decide which one is right for you. That’s why “Mr Williamsburg” writes these Neighborhood Spotlight articles to introduce readers to the pros and cons of the area’s many unique locales. Today, we’re writing about the exciting Coventry neighborhood.
Ever heard of the neighborhood, Coventry ? If you are from this area Chances are, you have. This community is nestled alongside the shores of the Big Bethel Reservoir
Wedged between Big Bethel Road, Hampton Highway and Route 17, Coventry’s 320 level acres consist of wide, modern streets lined with young trees and modestly priced homes. They vary little in style and stand tightly together, but woven between Coventry’s nine distinct neighborhoods are acres of paths, lakes, woods and open space.
Coventry features eight neighborhoods, two large recreational facilities, sports field, clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, six lakes, and jogging and biking trails.
It’s location is just minutes away from shopping centers, schools, hospitals, restaurants, places of worship, airports, Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis Army Base, and NASA.
This master-planned community offers both attached town homes and detached single family homes. Coventry is composed of the Davis Forge, Faison Green, Justinian Grove, Lilburne Meadow and Presson Arbor communities.
Coventry was developed by H. R. “Dick” Ashe, and American Eastern, Inc.. American Eastern (H.R. “Dick” Ashe) is a highly respected residential builder/developer from Suffolk to Williamsburg. Since 1985, he has produced thousands of affordable townhomes and single-family homes as well as luxurious custom homes for a demanding clientele.
Coventry is a sought after community in the Yorktown Va area. It was developed in the late 1980’s –2003 .Today, there are approximately 160 homes in the Coventry neighborhood. In terms of style Coventry is filled with mostly transitionals on lovely treed lots. Home sizes for detached homes range from 1550-3800 square feet with the average coming in at 2100 square feet. Attached townhomes range in size from 1200- 1995 square feet.
Two Story homes are predominant but there are numerous ranches as well. The lot sizes for single family homes range from approximately..15 – .to .40 acrewith most averaging three quarters of an acre in size. Most homes were built by American Eastern Inc.
The crown jewel of Coventry is the Presson Arbor neighborhood. Detached homes were built there between 1997 and 2003 primarily by Wayne Harbin Builders, one of the area’s most renowned builders..The average home size in Presson Harbor is larger at 3100 square feet though they range from 2200-3800 square feet. Lot sizes in Presson Arbor are larger than the other neighborhoods in Coventry as well and average about .33 acre.
| Town Home options in Coventry Ferguson Glade Townhomes offers 2 and 3 bedroom floor plans with approximately 1,450 to 1,650 sq. ft. of living area. Ferguson Glade has an association fee of approximately $105 per monthSmithy Glen Townhomes at Coventry, offers Five models ranging from 1,356-square-foot Eaton model to 1,164-square-foot Sycamore mode. 2 and 3 bedroom models are available both with with and without attached garages. Smithy Glen in Coventry has a homeowner’s fee of about $85 per monthFinch Terrace Townhomes offer 3 and 4 bedroom floor plans with 2.5 baths and approximately 1,700 ~ 1,900 sq. ft. of living area. Finch Terrace has a homeowner’s association fee of approximately $105 per month |

Coventry has an HOA that offers plenty of opportunities to participate. The monthly home owner association fee is $44 The community has 2 Olympic-sized pools, tennis courts, soccer field, recreation area and jogging trails
Location and nearby points of interest
Coventry is located in Yorktown and is easily accessible to RT 17 and I-64 for a quick commute to Newport News, Ft Eustis, Langley AFB, Cheatham Annex, USCG Training Center, Yorktown, Williamsburg and most other points on the Peninsula and beyond in Southside Hampton Roads and Williamsburg.

You can brush up on American history, refreshing your memory about the pivotal battle in America’s fight for independence at several museums and historic sites. York County has one of the top public school systems in Virginia. Money Magazine named York County schools one of the top 100 education buys in the country. There are also eight colleges and universities and three community colleges in Hampton Roads. The region has the highest concentration of colleges and universities in the entire State of Virginia.
By almost every measure of academic achievement – such as promotion rates, graduation rates, and standardized test scores – York County ‘s school students rank among the best in the state. As a result, York County is among the leading localities in the percentage of high school graduates planning to continue their education.
What are home sales like in Coventry ?
Over the last year, detached home sale prices in Coventry have ranged from a low of $225,000 for a 1726 square foot home that sold in one day to $509,250 for a 3364 square foot four bedroom three bath home,
Sale prices of Attached town homes in Coventry in the last 12 months ranged from a low of $171,000 for a 2 bedroom two bath unit that sold in one day for $2k less than it’s list price to $244,500 for a 1986 square foot unit.
Prices vary according to size, condition and age,. . The average market time for the 36 home sales in the last 12 months in Coventry was approximately 98 days , although that doesn’t include the DOM ( days on market) of a home if it is re-listed after expiring.
Property Taxes
With a real estate tax of $0.6575 per $100 York County taxes are among the lowest in the Hampton Roads region. The annual taxes on a typical home in Coventry valued at $300,000 would equal $1972.00 a year. To put that in perspective the annual taxes on the same value home in neighboring Newport News would be $3300.00 annually. A savings of $110.00 monthly.

Located in the heart of the Virginia Peninsula, York County stretches 27 miles from Williamsburg to Hampton and covers 108 square miles. The County is 20 minutes from Norfolk and less than an hour from Richmond. With more than 200 miles of coastline along the York River and Chesapeake Bay, waterfront property is abundant. The County is adjacent to James City County, the Cities of Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, and Poquoson. York County is part of the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Statistical Area that ranks 31st in population in the United States.

Available facilities include a 70 acre sports complex, 42 baseball/softball fields, 35 soccer/football fields, 36 tennis courts, 37 outdoor basketball courts, 5 outdoor tracks, 3 public boat landings, a 12-acre beach/picnic area on the York River, 2 neighborhood park sites, three smaller parks totaling 67 acres, and the newly renovated 545-acre New Quarter Park.
