Luxury Condo in the Sought-After Ford’s Colony

Three decades in Ford’s Colony

2202 Eaglescliffe is a luxury condo in the sought-after gated community of Ford’s Colony. The condo was home to a single couple, the late Lottie and Henry Glista.

The Glista’s purchased the condo at 2202 Eaglescliffe six years ago, but have lived in Ford’s Colony for three decades. Originally from New Jersey, they retired to Williamsburg 30 years ago. The original home they purchased was also in Ford’s Colony, but became too much for them to maintain when they hit their eighties. When the opportunity to move to Eaglescliffe presented itself, they jumped on it.

Living the Williamsburg dream

The Glista’s love affair with Williamsburg started back in the 1950’s. They came here on a trip after getting married and Lottie fell in love with the town and its history. They continued to come here throughout the years, and eventually brought Susan and her brother on vacations here as well. After retiring, they saw their window of opportunity to finally make the move to the town they loved so much.

A community like no other

Susan – who lives in Texas – tried to get her parents to move to the Lonestar state when their previous home became too much for them to care for on their own, but they loved Williamsburg too much. Susan says she can’t blame them though, because the condos at Eaglescliffe are fantastic. “It’s such a wonderful place,” she says. “Living there is like living in an upscale college dormitory because of the community it gives you. All of the neighbors know each other, socialize, knock on each other’s doors and play funny jokes on one another. If a neighbor is sick, someone will come by with some soup. They checkup on each other and that was always comforting for me to know they had such an amazing community looking out for them.”

Susan can’t stress enough how unique the Eaglescliffe condo community is. The neighbors all have an interest in one another, but never in a nosey way. They have weekly gatherings in the courtyard where they have drinks and share experiences and stories. Susan says anytime someone new comes in, they are immediately welcomed with open arms and brought down to the courtyard to join the group.

“It’s the most wonderful group of people I have ever met,” Susan says. The Eaglescliffe neighbors also love to gather for the holidays and special occasions, all opening their doors on Christmas and going from one condo to the next for drinks, appetizers and meals.”

Susan says that all of the residents take pride in their units, and her mother and father were meticulous and contemporary. “The condo is like a showcase,” she says. Her mother took up painting in her retirement, and lined the walls of the condo with her work.

Ford’s Colony is home to many retirees, and offers countless opportunities to explore new interests and passions with their various clubs and activities. For Lottie, it was her art. For Henry, he was a founding member of the Ford’s Colony Model Railroad Club. Residents have access to golf, tennis, a number of pools, hiking and walking trails, entertainment and so much more.

For Susan, the security in the neighborhood was always a comfort, especially as her parents got older. Between the gates, 24-hour security and access to the condo itself, she always felt her parents were very safe and secure.

Luxury condo living

The condo at 2202 Eaglescliffe is 2,300 square feet of single floor living and features three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The open floor plans is light, bright and perfect for entertaining.

Susan says one feature her parents loved about the home is the amount of storage it has to offer. One storage closet is so large it could double as a computer room. The bathrooms are also large in size and the master bedroom is just beautiful with its walk-in closet and master bath with garden tub and separate shower. For those who like to enjoy time outdoors, the home has a screened in balcony that you access through beautiful French doors. Below the complex is an underground garage where residents park their cars and access the elevator. Each resident also has their own storage unit down there.

While the Glistas only lived there for six years, they added their own personal touch to the space when they installed beautiful built-in shelving surrounding the gas fireplace in the great room.

Located right next to the elevator, the condo is convenient to access yet very safe at the same time. The second-floor unit is so well-insulated you can’t hear the elevator or neighbors at all, and the utility bills stay inexpensive because the condo is sandwiched between two other units. “The home is so well-made,” says Susan. “Everything is quiet, well insulated and comfortable.”

Parking garage with storage closet

The Glistas went with a neutral color scheme throughout the house. There are hardwood floors, granite countertops, black GE monogram appliances as well as white leather furniture that is available if buyers are interested in keeping it. Everything is very light, neutral, and creamy.

Susan says one of the key aspects of this home is how well-constructed and well-maintained it is. The Glistas lived there with no pets, were the first owners and kept it in pristine condition. “Everyone who lives in Eaglescliffe is on the same page,” says Susan. “There is no arguing, they just take care of their homes, socialize and look out for one another. It’s just a wonderful, stress-free place to live.”
