Piney Creek Estates

Piney Creek Estates Neighborhood Spotlight by Mr Williamsburg

Comprised primarily of custom homes built by local Williamsburg VA builders Joel S. Sheppard and Ronald Curtis, Piney Creek Estates is of one of only a few newer subdivisions within the City limits of Williamsburg Virginia.

Why bother paying high HOA fees when you can live in the City of Williamsburg within the beautiful hidden gem of Piney Creek Estates for just $84 a quarter! Living in the City has its perks – one of them being the lowest tax rate in our area. Others include FREE trash service, FREE leaf collection during the months of November and December using a street vacuum system ! $10 Good Neighbor passes to Colonial Williamsburg.

Developed by Joel Sheppard and partners in the  1990’s Piney Creek offers the feel of other upscale communities in the area like Kingsmill, Fords Colony, Greensprings Plantation and others.  Features of Piney Creek Estates neighborhood include a gas lamppost in each front lawn, curbed roads throughout, exposed aggregate walkways and driveways, underground utilities & wooded homesites. The architectural styles mirror those you will find in Fords Colony, Kingsmill, Holly Hills and other neighborhoods. Front elevations are predominantly brick. Home sizes in the neighborhood range from 2200-3600 sq feet with the median being around 2500 square feet. Quite a few of the homes are one level with a bonus room over the garage.

History : Despite criticism from the adjacent Skipwith Farm neighborhood residents, the Williamsburg City Council  unanimously approved the 107-home Piney Creek Estates subdivision in 1991. Skipwith Farms residents had said the proposed entrance road, Waltz Farm Drive, which  runs from Richmond Road to what is now Pocahontas Drive, would create safety problems for Patrick Henry Drive residents who live near where the two roads will intersect. Sales were brisk with homes being built some of the finest builders in the area including Joel Sheppard Custom Builder, Ronald T. Curtis Custom Builder, C.R. McLellon , Darrell Rutherford Builders, Distinguished Homes, R.A. Staples Contracting Co. and  Skalak Building Co. Most of these builders built homes in Kingsmill, Fords Colony, Greensprings , Governors Land and other upper end neighborhoods.  Lot sizes in Piney Creek range from a quarter of an acre to a third of an acre and the community is surrounded by a wooded greenspace buffer on three sides.

This picturesque neighborhood enchants many with it’s mature landscape, plants, and trees as far a the eye can see. We almost forgot to mention the wildlife…deer and other woodland creatures tend to be frequently seen. This neighborhood is close to good shopping but feels like you are miles and miles away!

Piney Creek residents can enjoy the nearby James City County Recreation Center less than a mile away. The center offers fitness classes and aerobics programs as well as swimming and water fitness classes. Rec Center amenities include 2 racquetball courts, 2 whirlpools ,a 25 meter by 25 yard swimming pool with zero depth entry and wheelchair accessibility, Indoor suspended track, Arts and crafts area with potters wheels and kilns, Dance aerobic room, Fitness area with free weights and circuits of Cybex and Nautilus equipment, as well as cardiovascular equipment with broadcast vision theater, Game area with air hockey, pool table, table tennis, and foosball, Gymnasium with 2 full basketball courts, Multipurpose meeting rooms, Parent supervised play area, Saunas in the locker rooms, Senior area with game table and lounge seating.
